Credit Transfer

Transfer of Credit (TOC)

Due to the specific structure, content, presentation and integration of the MTIC program and courses it is rare that transfer credits are accepted. MTIC is dedicated to training expert massage professionals and the program design at MTIC has been developed to accomplish this. While there might be some overlap of ideas and content in some courses taught at other schools (such as Anatomy), MTIC has found that the presentation and requirements to learn Musculoskeletal anatomy of muscle origins, insertions, actions, palpation and treatment with massage along with a functional level of understanding of body systems, A&P from a massage therapy perspective usually requires thorough attendance in the MTIC A&P courses. The MTIC body mechanics and movement training is integrated into every massage therapy class and MTIC has developed all the massage classes to be a unique application of massage technique, anatomy and body mechanics that is not likely to be duplicated in other trainings. It is MTIC’s preference that all students, regardless of previous training, plan to attend the entire program so the student understands and is able to provide and apply the level of professional massage skills taught at MTIC.

For consideration of TOC the prospective student must prepay a $50 transcript evaluation fee and submit an official transcript from an accredited college or massage therapy school along with a MTIC TOC Request Form [click here to download a PDF version of this form] that details the courses completed that are being requested for TOC consideration. The prospective student must also provide from their former school, an institutional catalog and or copies of course materials [such as course syllabi, lesson plan, outline, course notes, course descriptions] and or letters of recommendation with course description and student performance evaluations given by the teacher of the course that describe the course content and requirements that were in effect at the time they took the course.

The MTIC Director will review and research the submitted materials to determine if the requested TOC meets equivalency requirements for MTIC course work. Applicants for TOC may also be required to pass written, verbal and or practical equivalency evaluation tests in A&P and or Pathology for Massage and or Massage Therapy to demonstrate equivalency.   Receiving credits must be earned within the last 5 years and the grade in the course being considered for TOC must be a B or higher. Experiential learning credits (life experience) are not accepted. The MTIC Director makes all decisions regarding TOC and all decisions are final.

MTIC will make reasonable efforts to apply credit where such transfer of credit is considered equivalent to MTIC program hours.

MTIC requires that TOC requests are made prior to or at the time of the enrollment interview and prior to admissions. MTIC requires that these requests are completed prior to consideration for admissions. Decisions on transfer of credit must be completed prior to enrollment in the MTIC program. MTIC makes no guarantees regarding acceptance of transfer credits from other schools into MTIC programs and all decisions are made on a case by case basis.

Courses that may be considered for transfer of credit are CPR [Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation courses passed within the past year and provided by American Heart Association or American Red Cross], Anatomy and Physiology if the prospective student is able to demonstrate the required level of expertise required by MTIC in A&P and Musculoskeletal Anatomy [This may require passing a MTIC A&P written and practical exam as proof of proficiency]. Credit for massage therapy courses and pathology for massage therapy is not usually considered and if considered will usually require a written and practical massage skills examination prior to accepting transfer of credit for a massage course.  The fee for equivalency testing for written and practical TOC equivalency exams is $50 per exam. Students receiving transfer credit for previous course work will receive notification of an approval for transfer of credit prior to enrollment. The credit hours accepted for transfer will be applied to the appropriate course and if applicable an adjustment in tuition at a rate per classroom hour for each classroom hour of credit accepted will be considered and if tuition credit is applied it will be noted on the enrollment contract. The note of TOC accepted and tuition credit applied on the enrollment contract along with the TOC Request Form will be kept in the students file to verify TOC acceptance.

A minimum of 50% of the MTIC program hours [400 hours of the 800 hour program] must be completed at MTIC for transfer of credit students to qualify for graduation and certification from the 800 hour MTIC Certified Massage Therapist Program.

Transfer Of Credit To Any Other Educational Institution: MTIC does not guarantee the transferability of its credits to any other educational or governmental institution. Transferability is determined by the receiving institution. MTIC will provide a copy of the student’s transcript upon request for a fee [Duplicate Transcript Fee of $25 each and a to be determined fee charge based on $20 per hour labor and $1 per page for documents provided for a minimum fee TOC transcript and materials request charge of $50. The TOC materials preparation fee could exceed $50 per request if extra time and materials are required. The requestor will be notified if the fee is expected to exceed $50 and permission of the requestor is required to process materials that will have a fee greater than $50. MTIC will cooperate with the student and the requesting institution if explanation of MTIC credit is requested.
