The "Certified Massage Therapist" Curriculum

Back to Year 1 Hours

Required Massage Homework
Giving

Documented with signed therapy reports 120 hours of giving massage to clients. Students will work to do approximately 40 hours of Swedish, 40 hours of Deep Tissue and 40 hours of Neuromuscular Therapy throughout the year. This requires the student to practice 3 treatments per week for 40 weeks.

The therapy report must be properly completed at the time of the treatment and needs to be signed by the student and the client for credit to apply. Students must present these reports to the teacher in Massage class so reports can be verified for accuracy and counted as homework. These reports are presented in a binder at the end of the year as part of the final requirement.

Receiving

In addition to giving massage MTIC requires students receive 40 hours of massage. Approximately 10 hours of Swedish, 10 hours of Deep Tissue, 10 hours of Neuromuscular Therapy and 10 hours of other massage styles is suggested for a reasonable experience. The student should plan to schedule about 1 massage a week 3 weeks of the month to complete this requirement.

MTIC knows it is vital to the development of a skilled therapist to have sufficient internal experience of massage. In addition to being a great learning method the student can also realize the health benefits that can be derived from regular massage.

Students are required to document each treatment received with a therapy report that is properly filled out by the student and signed by the massage provider. These reports are presented in class to the massage teacher as homework and are presented in a binder at the end of the year as part of the final requirement.

MTIC also requires and expects each student will meet this requirement with self respect and integrity.
